Fast-food Aikido
Hi, I work at Wendys as some of you may know. Now if you've worked fast food than you know that it's stressfull, busy, and crowded. I apply what I learn in the dojo at work, im not kidding.
Im talking footwork here people. (Tanka? Tankan? sorry) This sidestepping practice is an invaluble tool when trying to wade through the hordes of ticked off co-workers. If you work at fast food.....try it out sometime. Not to mention keeping my center, and absorbing the stress (not building it up for later) with it. Aikido really is a new lifestyle for me :) |
Re: Fast-food Aikido
:) great to hear it works this way for you. :)
I think you should also post in the "you're addicted to aikido when..." thread :p I sit in front of a PC during work, so I guess I can't apply it the same way.... But but, I do apply this in other situations, like running to the office during heavy rain, during jogging, (at the gym??), abd also when travelling in general.... Aikido is more than just a Martial Art, its a wonderful part of daily life. |

Pinciples do generalize to other context.

Dude!!!! Thanks! I'll give that a try... :D and Mike, if you're artsy, try working in the animation / film industry.. you'll love it.. hehehhe (and studying film is quite fun) (just my opinion) |
Re: Fast-food Aikido
I don't work the busy fast food, but I do work in a little frozen yogurt shop. I agree with Mikel as there are many great opportunities to work on footwork. I have to Tenkan and sidestep to avoid colliding with other employees behind the counter sometimes. :)

Re: Fast-food Aikido
Try tenkan and irimi while maneuvering in a crowd at a concert or football game or crowded mall at Christmas.

Re: Fast-food Aikido
hahahaha this is great.
Tomorrow is Aikido again...yahoo! |
Re: Fast-food Aikido
Try extending as you walk through a crowd and get them to move out of the way :D

The great thing is the way the few of them who are conscious of what they've done clearly are wondering why they did it, but they don't seem the least bit upset about it. :D |

Maintaining one's center and projecting from one's center (including footwork, posture - manifestation of psychological attitude through physical attitude, ma-ai, angle of approach and engagement) become very important and helpful when working in a crowded and/or hostile environment. And without a doubt, it works when executed properly. |
Re: Fast-food Aikido
Im so suprised to see that so many people are doing this too. I am now practicing the unbendable arm, and extending Ki, so I will have to try this getting people to move out of the way thing. I work today at 2 so I'll try it, I suppose I'll just try and have the unbendable arm sensation throughout my whole body when moving.
Thanks. btw, the unbendable arm practice has given me so much more insight into the world of aikido, my last Dojo session was the best so far! (except for the first one, hehehehe) |
