Mould on my bokken

A few days ago, I bought a white oak bokken from japan. To my horror, there was some mould growing on it. There are small green spots all over it and i tried sand it off but to no avail. Is it ok if I used mould/mildew remover on it? Thank you, Chris.

I don't see why not. Mould remover is essentially bleach, so leaving it on too long might damage the wood, but putting some on and wiping it off soon after should be okay. Just be aware that it will lighten the colour of the wood, so you might want to apply it evenly to the whole bokken.

Once you've cleaned it up, I'd suggest a thorough oiling. Having mold develop in the first place suggests that the wood was not treated properly after the bokken was made.
