1. why didn't these damn gi pants have zipper?
2. why do you always need to go to the bathroom right after you putting on the gi and walked on the mat?
3. do i need to wear anything underneath the gi? and if it's ok to wear lacy stuffs underneath?
4. should i have that dozen of chicken wings and a gallon of mt dew before practice?
5. should i put on tiger palms to the inside of my thighs before practice?
6. does scratching oneself (which you hidden as belt adjustment waza) before doing katate dori the right thing to do? and did that other bugger pull the same stunt?
7. does tripping on your own hakama consider as self-defense?
8. is it ok to wipe your sweat on nage while taking ukemi for iriminage?
9. is it ok to hum "i am sexy and i know it" tune while practice neck choking techniques?
10. why is there no aikido technique against nunchaku?
11. what were those shaolin monks thinking when they came up with those wicked array of weaponry?

1. No need for zipper, just make sure you get elastic ones with the drawstring instead of those awful tie pants..
2. Because you're a boy and don't think ahead
3. It's always ok to wear lacy stuff underneath!
4. Only if it's someone else's turn to clean the mat
5.Yes, if you want a fun and exciting practice!
6. Yep, it proves you are hardcore!
7. Only if your ukemi is good enough to fall on your nage safely
8. No need, sweat should be dripping everywhere anyway.
9. Wrong decade, you should be humming "I'm too sexy"
10. Because Aikidoka like to avoid broken fingers when possible.
11. "Dude! Check THIS out!"
12. Because the creator has an infinitely more twisted sense of humor than the common man can understand.

--Ashley... who is beginning to think Phi has a bad influence on my sense of humour. :D

Nothing, really. The things I know now are the product of understanding that can only be gained through experience. If I'd asked the questions before I started training, I wouldn't have understood the answers.

I probably should add, though, that I didn't start martial arts training with either the illusion or the desire to be able to beat up a dozen Crack-Crazed Urban Street Scum(tm), the need to work through unresolved issues caused by childhood bullying, or the belief that I would somehow "get my aggression out" through training (and that that would be a good thing). In other words, I honestly think I came to martial arts training with a good bit less of the damaging nonsense that seems so common among beginners. Not that I knew anything, either, but being free of both knowledge and assumptions/agendas is probably better than having little of the former and a lot of the latter.

we were looking up to you, Mary. we were hoping that you could share your rough and tumble past that made you learn martial arts. couldn't you just make up some horrible stories? for example,
"my kitty cat was rubbing furs all over me. it was death by cuteness, so i had to take up martial arts to defend myself" or "my puppy was licking me to death. it was slow dying by slobbering and tonguing and even some yelping, so i had to learn a martial arts to fight off the evil monster puppy."

in my case, it was a case of fail heroism where i didn't get to select to play the stupid prince part in high school play where i got a chance to save the crazy drama blond queen ..... i meant the damsel in distress, so i took up a martial arts that gave me a chance to wear a skirt as high fashion. :D

1. When will I stop measuring myself against my peers ?
2. When will I stop obsessing about that black belt ?
3. Why does it make me feel so good to spend too much time at aikiweb.com ?
4. How come I had to dabble in so much before I found the budo that was right for me ?
5. Should I be worried because I enjoy wearing a hakama ?
