Miyamoto Musashi's duel reenactment
Very powerful reenactment of Miyamoto Musashi's duel with Sasaki Kojiro. Done in the medium of web-comic.

Re: Miyamoto Musashi's duel reenactment
Anyone read Eiji Yoshikawa's book on Musashi? Very good read if you like adventure and serials. There were four films done with Toshiro Mifune based of the book.
Of course Musashi himself is a bit of a strange one. I've been told (but have no references) that none of his duel were against anyone from any famous schools at the time. Thus this great warrior was just smashing untrained skulls... Anyone got any references as to the subject, please lemme know. |
Re: Miyamoto Musashi's duel reenactment
It's difficult to prove that he didn't fight anyone renowned (as we only know what's recorded), but I would certainly agree that many of those he's fought from the stuff I've read on him were effectively semi-trained lords with a sword (or children!). However I think it was a great social statement - substance is more important than image!

Re: Miyamoto Musashi's duel reenactment
Although the book wasnt a completely true account of Musashi's life, i believe the duels he had were of some pretty high standards - remembering he took on the house of Yoshioka as well as various reputable clans of that time, and ofcos, the famous Sasaki Kojiro. One thing the book didnt mention was of his services when he joined the troops of Ieyasu after the fight with Kojiro. You should really pick a copy up if u havent, a couple of my friends (including the girls) got really hooked on it.. haha
Btw, the Niten Ichiryu of Musashi is still being used in Kendo these days, but ive heard from some people that its not really a favoured style. Can any of the kendo folks confirm this? |
