bokken/jo storage
I've read the following article, entitled "Caring for your Jo":
http://www.aikidoaus.com.au/dojo/docs/jo_%20care.htm In it, the author says to hang a jo by a string or rope from a hook, so that gravity exerts pressure down the jo during its adjustment period. I was wondering if the same thing applies to a bokken. What is the best way to store a new or old bokken so that it won't warp? Would hanging it the same way be bad for it, since it's not a straight line? |
Re: bokken/jo storage
I guess hanging is a good idea
what is also good is horizontal storage, either on a flat surface or a rack flip the weapon over from time to time, just in case ;o) the most important is to keep it away from heat (or cold) sources (sun, heat sink, tv... ) the worst storage is vertically against the wall, as gravity in that case will push the wood in its natural flaws (and against the wall if it's laying on it like a ladder...same as golf clubs!) Re: bokken/jo storage
Oh boy, for sure, keep it far from the air conditioners and heaters.
That is the ultimate way to kill your weapons. AHH i store my clubs vertical in the bag is that bad? |
Re: bokken/jo storage
Anyone know what the best way to transport a bokken from say TX to NM or CO with out it warping. I was thinking like a silicon bag like you would store a gun in. Any thoughts?

I had one bokken air mailed in a cardboard tube with bubble wrap in it, but it also never warped. I think warping is more of a thing to worry about if you intend on leaving it leaning up against the wall for a very long time. |
Re: bokken/jo storage
I typically store my weapons in the utility (laundry) room. Although it's a fairly large space, the discussion above gives me pause as to using this room as a storage area. I better move the darn things out of there. Eek!

Re: bokken/jo storage
I have an extra sword stand that I put my weapons on. It works well and looks good in the process.
