1st Dan Black Belt (Shodan)
 
Was just wondering what sort of time it takes to achieve this, i realise everyone is different but if you can just put how long it took you & how often you trained!

Hi Stephen !

It depends - if Aikido is your first martial art , probably 8-10 years 3 times a week - in my dojo .

Hi Stephen:

It took me 9 and a half years, practicing once a week at first, and soon, two to three times a week. I was in no hurry, though, as I never really intended to get my shodan. I have always practiced aikido because I love doing aikido.

Sorry I didn't mean that to sound offensive or dismissive.

I mean..who can quanitfy what is learned by who from whom?

Myself, eight years, though others in my dojo have done it in three or four. Five or six seems to be the average among our 25 or so yudansha.
