lightweight hakama

My dojo gets insanely hot in the summer, and I don't deal with the heat very well, so sometimes I don't wear my hakama. I then have to bear harassment about training in my underwear...well, no more!!

Does anyone have any advice on where I can find an EXTREMELY lightweight hakama? At a seminar I once saw a fellow with one that was so light, you could see through it when the light shone the right way...this is the kind of thing I'm looking for!

Thank you! :)

Sounds like a rayon blend.

I train in Florida and like the Bujin's Cotton Duck Blend. It's pretty lightweight as its a cotton/ poly blend, but not too hot.

You might also try wearing a pair of loose sweat shorts or a pair of cut off zubon under your hakama. It makes things a lot cooler.

The lightweight tetron hakama from http://www.budogu.com/ or http://www.e-bogu.com/ are pretty lightweight and are easy to take care of.

Tozando has a very lightweight tetron hakama on sale for less than $60 USD (without shipping).

Regards,

Personally, I hate synthetics. But the white tape line offered by Mugendo Budogu (same www.budogu.com cited by Greg Jennings) is 100% cotton and suits me just fine for summer wear. Wash cold and dry flat, or buy a bit larger than you want, to allow for shrinkage.

Then....get yourself one of Mugendo's white single-weave kendo-style keiko-gi (with one slit down the back instead of two at the sides and a good measure of extra length in the jacket) and there's no need to worry about the sweat shorts or zubon, since the jacket will hang considerably lower than a standare karate or judo gi -- about a hands width or less above the knee. That's generally enough coverage for reasonably modest kneeling and folding the hakama before you change clothes. Or you could change your clothes and then fold.

Add a little toy towel for brow-mopping and you're all set.

Best,

Fred Little

It sounds like one of Tozando's "Summer Weight" hakamas. Unfortunately, they discontinued those a couple of years ago.

I recently got a lightweight tetron hakama from BoguBag.com and while it's lighter than everyone else's hakama at my dojo, it's not as light as my summer weight hakama from Tozando.

So far, though, the lightweight tetron is the closest I've found to my Tozando summer weight hakama.

That is a complete and utter falsehood!

The two are in no way related.

Here are the whois records for the two websites:

http://www.whois.sc/bogubag.com

http://www.whois.sc/e-bogu.com

They look pretty different to me...

Thanks, Greg. I'll make a note of it, although the sites seem completely different. (We used the BoguBag.com site when we ordered these a couple of weeks ago.)

Don't make a note of it, as it's not true, as already noted by both Jun and I. They have different proprietors and different suppliers. The only way in which they are related is that they are both primarily kendo-gu "shops."

I'm curious why Greg thinks they are?
