Filtering/ignore buttons on threads?

Sorry if this has been asked before - I could not see any FAQ for this site - but is there any way to filter threads or to ignore specific posters (or topics)? With the long-running threads it becomes really hard to move around the stuff that is currently relevant to me.

Thanks, Gernot

Guys, sorry for that! I did not realize that "ignore" works for posts - I thought it was to prevent people contacting by PM. Works fine on posts... Much easier on the eyes now, yay!

Cheers!

Great tip, guess who is the first on my list?

David, I have no idea who might be first on your list. I am not involved in any flame wars, nor do I have grudges against people on Aikiweb. It is just easier to get through large amounts of stuff this way when I am looking for some specific information. That is why I like to call it "filtering" and not "killfiling", because when I have the info I want I can change the filter to look for other stuff. I have no objection to being killfiled or filtered by anyone, it's an open forum after all.

Yeah, I'll give you my snailmail... As for replies, you know you can still see the post is there, it is only abbreviated to a notice, so if you like you can click on "view post" to read it. It is evil to delete stuff and not inform users that there was something there, this board is very good in keeping the proper rules of filters. Besides, even if I see a response that is no guarantee that I will do anything about it, time- and effort-wise.

Gernot, I forgot to put :) in my last post, I intend to use it the same way you want to. It is tedious to go through extremely long post between two or three people arguing over the same thing without end when you are looking for specific information or specific poster.
Thanks for the information about the igno--er filtering tip. :)

Hi Gernot,

As you found, you can put posters whose messages you do not care to see onto your "ignore" list. Once you do this, you won't see their posts in the threads that you view. For those of you who need to know how to do this, simply click on a users's name in a thread whom you wish to ignore, and then choose the "Add <username> to your ignore list" option from the drop-down menu that appears.

There's, unfortunately, no way to ignore certain threads or forums. Perhaps in the future...

Glad to be of help, David. Sorry I didn't have enough info on you from postings to decide what you meant from a one-liner! Thick is me....might have to do with three bottles of white wine last night (not by myself though, I'll have you know).

No problem, sometimes I go to far, especially at 12:30 am when I should be sleeping. :)
