New To Aikido - From Dallas, Texas
Nice place here. Just wanted to say hello.
I'm in Texas and just last week began studying Aikido. I'm not new to Martial Arts, as I have studied Tae Kwon Do, Tang Soo Do, Goju-Ryu, Shaolin Long Fist Kung-Fu, and Yoshukai. Studied the various style mentioned above for 16 years and 9 years ago had some knee problems, (requiring surgery), and some back problems. But now, with a clean bill of health and a burning desire to learn more, at almost 40 years old, I'm back. And Aikido has always been a style that I have wanted to learn. See you people around and I hope to gain some knowledge here by just reading and asking questions. Hope I don't bug you too much... :D |

Welcome Howard,
knee problems are not the best condition for starting aikido, but is neither for the orther MAs, I guess. Just be careful and have fun. I really want to encourage you to stick to classes, even if some doctors even might advise the opposite. You just have to be careful and especially with shikko and ukemi. Just do wahat you are ready for. Do not enforce too much and you will have a wonderful live in aikido. :) Cheers Dirk |

Hay Howard,
Nice to see a fellow Texan. I'm just 2 hrs. SE from you, train @ easttexasaikido.com. If your ever in the area stop in. I had back problems too, Aikido hasn't hurt it one bit, in fact it's helped it.As stated above, take it easy and just do what your comfortable with, and remember, if it hurts your doing it wrong. Welcome Bro. O-ren |
