Still More Name That Uke

But this time, I'd appreciate it if folks would name the demonstrators. If IHTBF, then I gotta feel these guys.

First is George Dillman, I believe. From there, I recognise nobody.

Well, the Aikido guy is Nobuyuki Watanabe, at one of the All Japan Aikido Demonstrations.

Best,

Chris

Thanks. Just watched his 1987 demo video.

Anyone have any idea who the second guy is? Non-Japanese, dark gi and hakama?

Not an Aikido guy, I think, but sometimes the Hakko-ryu folks wear purple belts on top of their hakama like that (I'm not saying that it's Hakko-ryu).

Best,

Chris

If I am not mistaken, that is Wa-jutsu (sic) "master" Jacques Jean Quero.

Looks like that's it - and when Googled he does indeed have a connection to Hakko-ryu!

Best,

Chris

And I'm pleased to inform that this is certainly no longer the case. Yikes.

By the way good to see you guys Tuesday nite. Know of a good tailor in the area who can patch up the knee on my hakama?

Nice seeing you Tuesday also. Hopefully we'll see you on our mat more often. I have to ask around for hakama repair. My own ki-shield protects mine....

The recommendation I got back so far is to get a large patch sewn over the hole, around the perimeter several times and a few diagonal lines forming an X. To make the repair solid have another piece of material on the inside of the hole so it is sandwiched between two good larger layers. I've done this and it has held well over the years.

If you do one knee do both. Make the patches large enough to cover the entire front from seam to seam. (from Bill)

If I get more recommedations, I'll pass them along. Right now, no one seems to have their own tailor on this. Anyone else have suggestions re this?

Sorry to go off topic folks....

Jerry, rather than clutter up this space with this off topic topic, I sent you a PM with some more info.

I do hak and gi repairs a lot.
My preferred patch method is to apply fabric patch INSIDE the garment, then neatly trim the edges of the ragged holes and do tight zigzags on the outside of the garment to attach the layers together.

Thanx, Janet! For now, I ironed on patches on the inside... Will back that up Witt the zigzag stitching... I hope I don't screw it up. If you were closer, I'd be knocking n your door

sorry for the minor thread jack, folks. Back to our normally scheduled discussion....
