Who is this uke?
A clip of Saotome at a friendship exhibition a ways back. Dude has crazy good ukemi, imo. And that thing he does at 1:05. Dang.

Re: Who is this uke?
I know it is not Don Moock or Frank Bell......maybe Glen Bluestone? George Ledyard might know...

Guilty as charged.

Re: Who is this uke?
That was no uke. That was a Jedi. I didn't know a person could do that. It literally looked like the film was reversed.

Re: Who is this uke?
@greg--didn't know I'd get this old.
@Mark--No, but I've seen the logo. My Hispanic students delight in my name; it's like they're always calling me Sir Modesto. |

But, fwiw, it was a combination of two practices. 1) Sitting up while lying in SEIZA; 2) learning to control various stages of that back arch which I did through UKEMI for SHIHOO NAGE. Get the proper momentum with the inital rise, and the rest of it just sort of comes. The first time I did it I surprised myself. |
