Hi,

I'm male in early 20s
no martial art experience at all
and currently looking for an aikido dojo.
looking for a good one. Using "dojo search" database from this site I found one dojo close to where I'm living.

I live in Seattle, Washington, 98133. U.S.A
the dojo i'm talking about is

You are lucky. Seattle is an Aikido-rich area. But two instructors you should definitely check out, even if they may not be the closest, are Tenzan Aikido in Seattle (Bruce Bookman) and Aikido Eastside in Bellvue (George Ledyard). There are many other good schools there (including the one you are considering), but try at least these other two before you make any decisions. Both instructors are very well qualified and highly respected. George Ledyard is an absolute gem, and if I lived within 50 miles of his dojo, I'd be there every day. Have fun...

Ledyard is terrific, I know this firsthand from training with him.

I've only heard good things about Bookman, including from George.

If I lived up there, Aikido Eastside with George Ledyard Sensei would be my first choice. A friend who relocated up there last year gets to let me do so vicariously :-)

I add to the chorus of people recommending George Ledyard Sensei. He is not only a fantastic Aikidoka, but his teaching style is simply superb!

If you go there and you cannot see him, get a seeing eye dog! :eek:

George is great, but if you're looking for something close by, Two Cranes Aikido is full of good folks and not too far from where Martha's dojo is. I like Martha, but I think she's better with kids than adults. TCA is good peeps, at least swing by and check them out.

I've only been to Seattle on business one time, but I did manage to get a session in down at Eastside with George.

I very much enjoyed it, very friendly dojo. Get's a vote from me :)

I'll put in my plug here for Two Cranes Aikido which recently relocated but the adress can easily be found online!
Kimberely Richardson is a wonderful Sensei and an excuisite host. Her dojo has very good training and she invites some wonderful teachers to come and give seminars.
I also happen to know that there is a gasshku/advancement demonstration that is a fundraiser for Mary Heiny ( one of Kimberley's teachers ) soon.

So check 'em out and make some good friends in Seattle!!!!!!!!!!

Good for you. I'll probably see you around then, I still stop by there sometimes for test and special occasions. One of my sword students (Jason Matsumoto) is teaching the beginner series these days too and he's great. Enjoy! :)

I have never trained with Bruce Bookman Sensei, but I have seen aiki expo footage of him. I was really impressed with what little I saw. I have been to George Ledyard Sensei's seminars several times. He is a great teacher and a highly skilled practitioner. His approach and insights have been most helpful to me in my training. Check him out, you won't be disappointed. -Mindy-
