Hey Ryan, I'm from Holland but lived in Melbourne for half a year. Haven't trained aikido while I was there but I've heard this guy called Michael Field is a great teacher. Here's his website

martial.com.au

Good on ya mate ;)

Go and have a chat and a look at this guy
http://www.aikidojo.org.au/
His name is Simon Harris 4th or 5th dan, the guy is first class, he was one of the youngest ever to stay in the Iwama dojo(aiki founders home)
stayed ther for a while and makes regular return trips, his aikido is always fresh and solid. im sure he is in Fitzroy, which is loaded with Aikido clubs.
I think you would enjoy a class
gambatte

You could try Joe Thambu if you want some Yoshinkan Aikido, I have trained with him in one of his restraint and removal courses and he is a great instructor.

They have several dojo's in melbourne.

Hi Ryan,
I train in Bendigo (Aikikai), but we regularly trek to Melbourne for training at the head dojo in Clifton Hill. Aikikai has a large number of dojo in Melbourne. The site is http://www.aikido.org.au

Another large style with a number of dojo is Field Aikido (Iwama). My brother and sister-in-law train in their dojo.

There are a number of others out there. I would suggest getting on the mat with a few different styles and see what suits you best.

I started with Aikikai as it suited my tastes and requirements after 20 years of karate, but I've found its very personal.

I suppose one handy feature of Aikikai in Melbourne is there are a number of 40+ year practitioners. The styles vary of course, but you can't beat learning from someone with lots of years under their belt ;)

I recently started training at Aikido Shudokan (Thornbury) under Joe Thambu Sensei and his staff. I can highly recommend them.. The dojo , teachers and other students are fantastic. Check out the website www.aikidoshudokan.com..
