And we in NorCal are thrilled and delighted! This transplanted Brooklyn budobabe can't wait. Folks, if you are looking for aiki of the devastatingly, dangerously soft variety...this is it.

Re: Howard Popkin in Sacramento Memorial Day Weekend !

I want to that Howard Popkin Sensei for a wonderful seminar, Geoff and Adam of Two Rivers Budo for hosting the event, and all my new and old friends on the mat who showed up ready to be generous training partners.
This isn't aikido, but it is close enough that when Howard demonstrates how the internal aspects are woven into the waza it is easy to see/feel how to apply it to one's aikido (not to easy to do, but, hey, that's why we train...).
Things are broken down and explained, very concisely, then felt in the body, then practiced sometimes with multiple partners.
Eye opening - points to new directions for me, for sure, and highly recommended.

I had a terrific time. Everyone was super kind to the old fat girl with bad knees and a funny haircut. I learned a tremendous amount and I was reminded of a few things my dojo has moved away from over the years. My sensei is happy to revisit the concepts that have drifted to the side, and is looking forward to anything I can work up enough to effectively share with the dojo.

Thank you, Popkin sensei, for a weekend very well and enjoyably spent. Thank you for teaching me with the openness of heart paired with a sharp sense of humor that made me feel both welcome and challenged. And thank you for showing me how to properly put a bottle to bed. I will practice that diligently....
