Test Requirements
I'm looking for organizational test requirements for the major aikido organizations (Ki Society, Yoshinkai, Tomiki, AAA, USAF, Aikikai Hombu, etc.). I've undertaken a project, mostly for the heck of it, and it will make the project much better if I can find as many of these as I can. These are hard to find and I often end up at someone's web site and leave unsure if they are actual or a dojo quirk.
My goal is the full list including time and technique requirements. I have the ASU and the CAA requirements but those are the only one's which I'm certain about. Links are good! Thanks for any help. |

As to the rest of ya, is it really this hard to find the official reqs? How about unofficial that's almost official? It's the internet, some of you must need content for your sites, right? I promise that I'm using these only for a good and noble purpose. |
Hope this helps..enjoy :)

Grading requirements from Ichiro Shishiya under Aikikai - student of Nishio Shihan:

This page (from the US Naval Academy) has ASU test requirements. Since it's not an official ASU site, I can't guarantee that they're current:

I have my req's (AAA) as a word document. I could possibly e-mail it to you if you so like.

The official Shudokan syllabus for the UK, Canada, Germany & Poland, can be found at:
http://www.shudokan.org.uk/uk/refere...t_syllabus.htm If you are interested in time between grades, send me an email and I will explain, as there is no set time, as there is more to testing than learning the test syllabus, as you can see from the teaching notes. I hope this helps you out. |
Since the Ki Society teaches Ki development as well as Aikido techniques, a student is required to pass a certain level Ki test before they are considered for a rank test on Aikido techniques.
Here are the test criteria for Ki development. These are the test criteria for Aikido techniques. |

PS... Dallas, please send my regards to your sensei. We have had the please of training together. As well, I have hosted his teacher here. Regards ... |
Just wanted to thank everyone so far.
So what am I doing? Well, I'm not gonna say, yet. Mostly, I'm attempting a proof of concept on something which is completely non-innovative in concept but pretty probably unique and innovative in execution. So far, scope creep is massive and if it continues growing exponentially then it may never see the light of day. One guy == long time to finish. Then again I do have a semi-working model which does about 10% of what I'd like it to do so who knows. Edward, I'd very much like to see the AAA requirements. If you would be so kind as to send them to haselhofer@frys.com I would be grateful. Steven, I was amused by something on your list. I didn't know you Yoshinkai guys recommend a dark blue hakama. I used to wear one and in a semi-irregular fashion someone would ask me what it meant and whether I was ranked lower than the people with the black ones. Now, I'm back in black. Ted, thank you very much for adding an age requirement to my little project. :grr: Actually, I should have remembered it, it's pretty common. |
Just a little further info prompted by your last post. Here is a link to the Shudokan's "Junior" test syllabus.
http://www.shudokan.org.uk/uk/refere...r_syllabus.htm FYI - Shudokan originates from one of Gozo Shioda Sensei's early students, Thamby Rajah Sensei, just to put it in to context. Hope this is useful. |
I sent Tatacho Sensei your regards today :P I have a question why is shodan purple belt at your dojo?? just a question :P
