Gracie Jiu Jitsu & BJJ

Can someone be kind enough to list in points the differences that distinguish Gracie Jiu Jitsu from the standard BJJ.

Gracie Jiu Jitsu refers to the Gracie family style, it is the standard in Brazil. When others began to branch off from the Gracie family, and/or non-Gracie family began to teach the "Gracie style", or their own version of it they could not use the name Gracie, so BJJ became the more generic umbrella term for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

BJJ includes Gracie JJ as well as other styles of JJ, but nearly all the JJ that originates in Brazil is either directly derived from or influenced by Gracie JJ.

Specifically, Gracie JJ as a trademark refers to the art as systematically taught by Helio Gracie and his sons. There were other Gracie's - perhaps most notably the line from Carlos Gracie who was Helio's brother.

Don't forget Carlson Gracie JJ. Essentially the only reason the words BJJ came about is because of the trademark and high cost of using the words GJJ. Even some gracies decided (like carlson) not to pay the fees and use their own names for the jj. But a lot of people just went with BJJ.

Pardon me, I actually meant to say Carlson Gracie. Carlos Gracie co-founded Gracie Jiujitsu along with his younger brother Helio. I think the late Carlson was the son of Carlos if I'm not mistaken.

I'd look at the instructors rank, his personal competition record, number of students and their ranks, their competition records, and what kind of personalities I ran into when I tried out the class.
