Bay Area Training Tour
Posted 2007-02-06 10:33:03 by Neil Mick
The Bay Area Training Tour will visit several dojo's in the Bay Area to meet and train with other members of the aikido community; and to kick off the HaraTHON! Program: an effort to support the practice of Aikido in troubled areas of the Middle East. This Tour, the first of its kind in the Bay Area (California), will focus upon dojo-building efforts within dojo's in Palestine, Ethiopia, and Iraq. Tour dates & locations: Linda Holiday, 6th Dan; Aikido of Santa Cruz, Sat 2/24, 10:30-Noon, presentation after class, $12 mat fee Kayla Feder, 6th Dan; Aikido of Berkeley, Tue 2/27, 6-7pm & 7-8pm, presentation after class, potluck after that. No mat fee. Hans Goto, 6th Dan, Bay Marin Aikido, Thu 3/1, classes 7-8:30, no mat fee. Pat Hendricks, 6th Dan, Aikido of San Leandro, Mon 3/5, 6:30-7:30pm, 7:30-8:30pm, presentation after class. Mat fee $15. Fundraiser for Training Across Borders, Richard Heckler, 6th Dan, 2/10, 10-4pm, Two Rock Dojo. Sliding scale: $40-$60. After the class, a short presentation will be given to showcase the fundraiser and to talk about the success of the "Training Across Borders" Seminar, where aikidoists from 16 countries (Israel, Iraq, Palestine, Jordan, Egypt, US, Britain, Greece, and Turkey, among others) attended a four-day seminar in the Green Zone in Nicosia, Cyprus, the last politically divided city in Europe. Participation in the Tour does not mean that you have to participate in the fundraiser. The only requirement in attending the Tour is the mat fee, and your participation! Re: Bay Area Training Tour
Neil
Thank you so much for your work on this wonderful project. Alas, I'll be 3000 miles away on family medical bidness right smack when this rolls through the bay area. If you can post information on how those who may not be able to attend might make a monetary donation? |

If you cannot make the Tour or the haraThon!, there are several ways to make a contribution: 1. You can become a sponsor for a haraThon! participant. Just email (neilmick@hotmail.com) your interest (subject line: haraThon! sponsor), and I will send back a mailing address (I will send it to right off, Janet). 2. You can donate directly, outside of the haraThon! Money raised in this manner will go to all manner of projects furthering the practice of aikido in the MidEast--through the funding of seminars, mats, and dogi's (an average cost for a gi over there is about $60). If interested, email me with the subject-line "A-E donations." 3. You can become a member of Aiki-Extensions, Inc. There are several benefits to becoming a member. Just click on this link, for more information: http://www.aiki-extensions.org/membership.html All contributions are tax-deductable. |
