A new review has been posted in the AikiWeb Book database:
============================ Book Title: Best Aikido Book Author: Ueshiba, Kisshomaru Review author: Eric Joyce Rating given: 3 (out of 5) Review: The book was pretty good. Some nice variations of techniques I haven't seen before. Some stuff seemed a little "flowery" but overall it wasn't bad. The thing that stuck me the most was the beginning chapters. I can't recall on what page, but Kisshomaru really played down the Daito-Ryu influence on Aikido. He more or less said that O'Sensei was exposed to many other martial arts (blah, blah, blah). It doesn't suprise me though. I would recommend it for beginners. For what it is worth. |
<-- is a beginner. Has the book. Likes the book.
We've been pretty much doing the same stuff in the book in class...not using it as a ciriculum, or anything, but, since it covers the basics, we've naturally been doing them. Sensei told me he prefers the style the book lays out, but he likes other variations, too. He said that probably the best use I'd have for it is learning terminology. |
Good book.

Good book. The tapes being done by Sandai Doshu are very nice as well. There are some differences iin the terminology and organization of material from Nidai Doshu's Aikido. The breakdown of FUndamental vs. Basic is interesting as well.
