musubi

How is it that the Aikido term for connection or union i.e. musubi is also the name for a rice and spam Hawaiian snack, Spam Musubi. Is there a better Aikido term for connection?

People used to carry rice balls as individual balls knotted into a piece of cloth - hence the name musubi, which means "knot" (but can also mean connection - anything "knotted" together).

Best,

Chris

I have been told that musubi can also mean a meeting and conflict, and that such a conflict may give rise to a new creative solution. So, just because you meet and conflict, don't back away, stick with it and see what new solution may arise from the seeds of both conflicting parties...
