hi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:ai: :ki: :do:

hi im new here and iv been reading through a few threads and every1 seems very friendly (just like @ most the dojo's I have every been 2) apart from a bloke called stuart who seems more imature than most. Im nearly 15 and have been training with sensei kolesnikov for 6 years now and have just completed my 1st adult grading (im a green belt now) :D.i already know that i will continiue with aikido for the rest of my life. i'd just like 2 ask what grade do you start weapons training? something that annoys me :grr: is that no matter how many times i pratise the ki tests i dont feel or seem 2 me that im actually improving at all. it annoys me because iv seen what ki can do through my teacher (who is one of the best and a very nice down to earth fuuny person) well nice 2 read the threads hello 2 all ( iv read that a person called jun created this site if thats true id like 2 say thanx and well done you should be proud of what youve made here and im sure that many people have much respect and thanx 2 you for making the site) WELL DONE JUN :D

Hi daniel welcome to the club.
Weapons - I introduce them (closely supervised), at 5th kyu (Wooden). This is to explain to students and let them experience distance variations and flow patterns. Recent insurance considerations/restrictions have curtailed the use of live blades, but I used to introduce them as soon as I deemed each student mature and competent enough to use them as safely as possible (again closely supervised). The principles are the same anyway, just a different awareness. The weapon is not the danger, the person is! I also organise displays to raise funds for Cancer Research UK, these are multi art affairs and live blades are sometimes used in demo's but insurance has to be set up in advance.
Ki tests? if they are the same as ours you may be trying too hard? Try to use good body form and re-direct your opponents energy in a circular manner.
Don't worry, it will come!
I agree nice one JUN!

Hello Daniel, Welcome to aikiweb, theres some great folks on here to discuss all things aiki (and most things not) with! Different organisations have different time scales for introducing weapons into training, some places introduce them straight away and others leave them until shodan or later, it just depends on your organisations syllabus. I seem to remember reading that in Hombu weapons were only taught behind closed doors by O'Sensei to his senior students.

Hi daniel.
I'm just a 'beginner' who has just gained his 3rd dan after 40 years in MArts and over 25 in Aikido. (I've been a bit casual about gradings)? I just enjoy what I do.
