New Year's Eve/Day Aikido Plans?
Hi folks,
Do any of you have any New Year's Eve/Day aikido plans coming up? -- Jun |
Re: New Year's Eve/Day Aikido Plans?
Here it is an hour and a half approximately after Jun-san's post
and noone has come up with an answer on formal practice on New Year's Eve or New Year's Day. I have just been instructed by a "newbie" in the introductions, and first Aikido class, and what sparked interest in Aikido threads by Lari of Finland ---- that Finns do what they have decided to do. (Not all of us do). I'm not a Finn but it's a good maxim to live by, if possible. So here's a suggestion: suppose someone has no local dojo that has New Year Practice or has transportation problems. Are you married to or living with someone who has practiced Aikido? Or are friends visiting that have? Try at least ikkyo and then the kansetsu nikyo thru sankyo, gently if necessary, stronger if they want to..... Now I have to be like a Finn and actually do what I say I am going to do. After all, it's going to be a new decade and we want to set a good tone, don't we? Sorry, Lari about the bad pun, I know you are a musician. |
Re: New Year's Eve/Day Aikido Plans?
We have a special training every New Years Day -- two hours of keiko including "The 108 Practice".

We have misogi. 108 shomenuchi ikkyo suwari waza, giving and receiving, with one partner, and then four each with everyone else in the dojo. Then we have a party. |
Re: New Year's Eve/Day Aikido Plans?
Our last class in this year will be tomorrow and after class we'll toast with champagne, I put a post on my blog inviting all of our group even the ones that are not training this month, I hope everyone who is still on the island will come. I heard something about a little speech our Sensei will do, knowing him it sure will be something to laugh about:)

Re: New Year's Eve/Day Aikido Plans?
We'll have training on New Year's Eve in the afternoon. Afterwards probabely a small toast and then everybody can go and celebrate. So I'll have both: training and nice celebration at home with self cooked Japanese meal
With the best wishes for a happy and prosperous new year, Simone |
Re: New Year's Eve/Day Aikido Plans?
My dojo has class every Sunday night. So we will train, as usual, on Sunday night. It being New Years day is really not all that significant in the dojo.

New Years eve is my Husband's birthday. The dojo is hitting the town to celebrate. Not sure where we are going yet though... :-O

Re: New Year's Eve/Day Aikido Plans?
We will have our regular training on New Year's day and then we will head down to the beach and do some suburi while we walk into the water....it's gonna be cold.
Best in 2011 to you all. Russ |

Re: New Year's Eve/Day Aikido Plans?
One dojo I was at, a new-year midnight training session was proposed. I went along in part out of curiosity, in part because sensei was doing it as a special traditional thing to do.
I did feel strange, though, that it took sensei away from his family at New Year ... Best wishes for 2011, however you ring it in. W |
