A solo kata.......

Hello,

I was wondering if there were any solo kata's in aikido?

If so, are there any clips of people doing them?

If not, I will create one!!!

Oh, I forgot to mention, I'm talking about empty-handed kata.

I think yoshinkan aikido have formulated their katas, bare hand and with tanto

very impressive to look at too..

Any body can "shadow" any of their techniques, and it looks very "kata"-like. Looks closer to tai chi than a karate kata, though. But it's not the same once you apply the technique. It's good practice if you are trying to remember the basic form of a technique.

We use the aiki taiso set (I believe originally from Ki Society) for warmups, and this makes a pretty good solo kata - lots to study in the movements, and they are not designed to require a partner. I have seen them in books by Tohei Sensei, and a good chunk of them are in Aikido and the Dynamic Sphere.
