questions over the decades - same or different?
I'm wondering if and how the questions that aikido community over the years have changed?
For instance, I have noticed a lot of questions nowadays may be about the efficacy of aikido - perhaps against MMA, or such and such a martial art. Has this always been the case? Have we as a community evolved in terms of our questions? Have the questions come full circle? Have they stagnated? Or do questions emerge thematically as per the individual aikidoka's stage of aikido? Thanks. |
Re: questions over the decades - same or different?
I don't really remember anyone asking comparative questions like that. But wondering if aikido would work against a real attack has always been popular!
One difference is the internet. For example this site allows exchanges and cross-pollination of ideas across different styles - there wasn't much of that. In the end I think you're right - individual aikidoka come up with their own important questions. One day hopefully answers too. |

Onegaishimasu. Questions change like everything else, that is why the study/practice of aikido is a journey. A question may come to your mind that never came before, and suddenly you are looking at lots of things in a different way. Just think, a question can appear that leads you around the corner into a brave new world...
