Dear Chris,
Never a true word spoken in jest. However I am not too sure its Doshus fault that he is slightly ?isolated from the masses.I have met him socially a few times and he is a nice man. However in Cardiff [as an example]due to vast numbers I do not think there was much chance of him and his son to meet the people.Even at the dinner or visiting high ranking guys ?? from the current Aikikai recognised groups he got very little chance to talk or r have a drink with the people at this meal.In the evening the buffet [cost 15 pounds]composed of cold sandwiches, and the odd chicken dipper. The Hotel provided no seating , too many punters. After complaining to the management about this I was told the organisers were told that there was not enough seats.I and my mates exited as fast as our little legs could carry us to the local den of iniquity[the pubs ] where we quaffed a few beers at much reduced prices. The course itself was poor, like being in a can of sardines-too many people.
I am not saying this was Doshus fault -just how it was.Never again.I also got the impression the Doshu was bored to tears with the the demos.Cheers, Joe.
Cheers, Joe

Doshu's in a difficult position in that almost everybody who speaks to him wants something, and he's very careful not to say or do anything that can be misused or misconstrued. Mitsuteru is much more approachable, although that sense of control and wariness is still there.

Best,

Chris

Dear Chris,
Cannot be easy for Doshu.I personally would never put him or anyone in an awkward position .Just felt he could have been more available in Cardiff. I do not expect him to be one of the guys but a balance could have been struck..Of course perhaps after I had made an hurried exit from said venue, maybe Doshu was Ok?Never waited around after the no chairs/pricy liquor.Had a good time slumming in Cardiff.Cheers,Joe.

My impression was that he gets kind of burned out and just wants to get out and be on his own rather than posing for a lot of pictures with people and making small talk.

Better to be in the cheap seats and have fun with the guys (and girls) :) .

Best,

Chris

I'm sure he does. Having been in a similar position on a much smaller scale -- chief editor of a major publication in my industry -- I can say that it's absolutely exhausting. Add in lots of international travel and being surrounded by people who don't speak your language (or speak it badly), and I'm sure there are plenty of mornings when he'd just as soon stay in bed.

Dear Chris,
This type of scenario comes with the job.Compare Doshus work with a guy who digs holes /has a low paid job in Mc Donalds. No contest. At the end of the day his was a career choice. So if Doshu has to spend time travelling[not in any cargo hold] or talk to boring people so be it. Cheers, Joe.
