In General Peaceful Warrior Movie Entry Tools Rate This Entry

I saw the movie adaptation of Dan Millman's first book and thought I'd give a review. If you liked the book, you'll like the movie. It's a nice movie, good at parts, tedious at others and very family friendly. There's a nice bit of gymnastics and Nick Nolte really took on the Socrates character (even with the slightest bit of Russian dialect) but if you're if you're going to see some aikido, you'll be disappointed. Some of the principles are there but mostly in the subtext. If you didn't like the book, don't expect to like the movie, either.
The most distracting thing about the movie was that it was supposed to be set at Cal Berkeley but it was filmed at UCLA, where I got to see the preview at the Festival of Books. One moment you're in NorCal, the next moment you're in Bruin-land. I don't know if anyone not familiar with both locals would be as confused as our audience was.

In General Dolphins Don't Get Heel Spurs Entry Tools Rate This Entry

I'll start my first blog with a whine. Practicing barefoot on a gymnastic floor has become extremely painful because I've manifested middle-age with a bad case of evil plantar faschitis. I'm contemplating gluing some kind of arch support into lightweight neoprene surf tabis so that I can get through a 2 hour practice without making a 'pained uke' face all practice long, especially while sitting seiza. I can only use these on carpeted mats because they leave scuff marks on other tatami. I just don't look forward to wearing neoprene out of water during the summer. Hot and sweaty--- *yuck* ! I can't handle NSAIDs or aspirin, and ice, arch support off mat and rest just doens't seem to be helping to heal it. Other treatment options look nasty, so I'm trying to avoid exacerbating the damage. I looking to increase my practice from 2-3 days a week to 3-4 days before I start school again in the fall...
