Where Courage Ends

There is a place
Where courage ends
And madness takes over
Sheer battle-madness
That counts survival
As the only goal
Savagery taking hold
And not letting go
Till you die, or
Your opponent dies
No quarter, no favor
Yet, within this hell
And terror lies joy!

Sitting in seiza
Sensei begins within silence
We practice making a good soup

In response to a question as to the meaning of Tsuke-Jiru, here is what I believe it means:

Tsuke-Jiru (zoo-kay -- gee-rue) -- A broth in which noodles and all sorts of foods are cooked. Making a good Tsuke-Jiru is the sign of a good cook; meaning that it takes time, discipline, and skill of a good teacher to instill knowledge and skill to students.

Not Today

Not today
Flowing and harmonious

Not today
Powerful and effortless

Not today
Nage and uke together as one

Not today
Painless aikido

Not today

Loud Silence

The silence of the moment
The silence of the now
Can be so loud, so deafening
It can be overwhelming
So, take some time
To embrace this silence

And let it embrace you
Settle into this embrace
Soon this silence will deepen
And be warm and comforting
And bring peace and open the mind
To new and different possibilities

Relax, no, relax more
More….no, not limp
See, here's rigid
Here's limp
Now, here's relaxed
Feel the difference?
Okay, play with this
For a few years
So, I was told
So many years ago
And I'm still playing with it!

Heart of Transcendence

The trench, the foxhole, the grave
Telling them apart depends
On context, on perception

Battle brings out many things in people
Some good, some not so good,
Some downright bad and ugly
But, in some, battle, battle
Brings out transcendence

In the heart of battle
In the cauldron of pain and fear
Some souls are elevated
Not to who they might become
But, to who they already are

A Little More

Damn, I hurt
I'm tired
Can't catch my breath!
That's it
Gotta stop -- take 5
No -- take 10!
If only …

Just a little more...
Quitting means accepting limits
Just a little more
Not much -- just more
Coordinate breath and body
Ah, a little more
Comes a little easier

Izanagi and Izanami

Izanagi and Izanami
Meet, intersect
Creating the world
And aiki….
And through aiki
The cosmic flow of life
Is created -- takemusu aiki
The spontaneous generation
Of technique --
A universal martial art
Not limited by system or style

The Gates

The gates are always open
Always, there are no barriers
No manned check-points
Checking ID, turning people away
The gates are always open
Always, just step on through
Through the gate each path leads to
The path you've traveled for so long

Just step on through
All the myriad gates
Lead to the same place
The destination is identical
The only actual gate is in your mind
Banish it....cross the threshold
You've come this far, don't tarry
You are the only gate keeper!

It rained today
Nothing fancy
It just rained
I got wet
Walking in the rain

But, I didn't care
It rained today
I took a walk
In the rain
And got wet
