Seminar Aikido west, great day, learned a new way of doing Kote Gaieshi and an attack and technique based on a double lapel grab. Worked with Jan and Frank from Mountain wind! I like working with both of them a lot. There was a lot to learn in the Seminar. I think that I may have figured out where some of my wall in Aikido is coming in, and how to start processing through it. Stress related to getting it right, and fear of getting it wrong. Feeling that I am going to be letting the others around me down if I don't get it right, and feeling stress from some other areas in my life that I have FEAR in. I need to learn to see the signs of this fear before it takes over like it seems to have been doing lately. Learning to stay in the moment and in the flow of the momement and the energy is the only way to really be in control. I seem to have forgotten this. Today there was something in working with strange people and hearing some of the words that Sensei was saying in a strange environment that really drove the point home. It was great, felt like a large rock had been lifted off of my shoulders, and that there was something that was working in Guy's Aikido again.

Ick what a icky class. Worked with Victor, Peter, Noel, and Melissa. Working with M on her test materials went well. Noel worked with me on the start of high falls, and another way completely to take Ukemi base on a seminar that he took while he was in England. It was really an eye opener on what was going on and the level of control that I have even as Uke.

Then I worked with Peter, and I managed to get him doing a lot of that Sankyo a very different way than what sensei does. Read sensei does the technique, Guy did a strange improve on the whole thing that was a mix of Ura and Omote. Sensei came by and corrected us and we got back on with it and all went well

In General Ikkyo revelations! Entry Tools Rate This Entry

Morning Class. Worked on a variety of stuff. Helped some of my kohi with their 5th kyu materials, and worked some on my variations which are required on my next test. Felt good to be on the mat, although my body is still feeling rather tired and run down from all the travel and the cold that I have had.

Sensei worked with me on helping my Ikkyo while I was helping some of the white belts with theirs. I need to make sure that I turn my foot to the outside of the technique, so that my center takes Ukes center.

2/22/05 Evening Class:
Worked with Melissa on her test materials. Felt really scattered in though because of a situation outside the Dojo. Found that it was not helping my training one bit! Felt off the whole class, wasn't on top of anything that I was doing, or anything that anyone else was doing

No mat time for Guy from the 1/6/05-1/17/04 as I was in Virginia finishing up some business. It all turned out good though and I was able to spend some quality time with my Dad to boot.

Back on the mat on the 17th, 18th, 21st and 22nd. This is open training month as Kyu tests are coming up on March 5th. M is testing for her 5th Kyu, so I have been helping her quite a bit. I have been working on Kaitan Nage most of the time in my practices, and a little on my Hanmi Handachi.

At first I thought that Hanmi Handachi was kind of strange, but after doing it for a while I realized that I thought that I was at a disadvantage when being down there and someone being up there. This was a wonderful realization which meant that physical size and location were linked to power in my mind. The entire idea of Hanmi Handachi in my mind shifted as a tool to make me less concerned with where I was in the physical sense and focus more on where I was in the mental and centered sense. For this Hanmi Handachi and Jo take away's are proving awesome.

Worked with Nikki on a variety of techniques, it is always fun having her as a training partner, she is wonderful in her Aikido, and wonderful to work with. In the process though I think that I have become an adolescent Aikidoka, and that I am more focused on the techniques, and getting things right now than I am on being kind and in the flow. This is frustrating me, and I can't see how to get out of it. Sensei warned me that I would ge ...More Read More
