In General Oh, for heaven's sake. Entry Tools Rate This Entry

After helping out with the kids', Sensei ran me through my test again during regular class. All I can say is, "what the hell is wrong with me?" I completely blank out on Shomenuchi Sankyo (!), for crying out loud! Sigh.

Once *that* fiasco was over, I got to work on the second version of Tsuki Koshinage (since I only knew how do the first, direct entry, version during the test run-through). And for the record, despite what Sensei seems to believe, I had NEVER learned the second version in class before AT ALL. So there. If he's mixing me up with Garry or Jim, don't even get me started. :-P

And about my Randori lately, a note to self:
Just...
Move faster.
Hit harder.
Aim lower.
...already! And for the love of Pete, you better come up with some better moves than the same old, same old. Sheesh!

Since there is no "Highly Dissatisfied with One's Technique" option under Mood, "Disgusted" will have to do.

You sound pretty hard on yourself. Im sure your Sensei isnt getting you mixed up, although it is hard to remember exactly who has learned what... He may just recognize the skills you have, and think you are ready for promotion. Im not sure if its this way in your class, but you can pass a belt test, even if you dont know every single technique. The test requirements are usually just a basic format for testing, and they give the student and instructor a basis for promoting. If you use one technique the entire Randori session and it works, then that "Same ole, same ole" technique is a great one. Aikido does focus on less techniques than other arts, but it has a focus on perfecting those techniques. So dont feel like using one technique is bad. Just remember that inside the dojo is where we practice. So use this place to try different techniques and remember no one is a master the first time they try something different. Good luck, and dont be so hard on yourself.
