In General Fun times with Angry Yoshinkan guy. Entry Tools Rate This Entry

Hey all,

Well this Saturday I awoke very happy and looking forward to another great Aikido lesson. I got up and got ready and set off, wondering where Rene was as he never stopped by.
I reached the school and phoned René, who never answered? strange but never mind!
Rene phoned and was still in bed and was getting ready and was on his way all in one breath.
I arrived at 11:15am and could not believe that the Dojo was open and as I walked in I knew why as standing there was a little fat guy dressed in Hakama and throwing around a Naganata, Uber serious and kind of nasty looking.
I said hello and he replied with a GRRRRRrrrrrrrr....
My initial though was "oh dear this lesson is going to hurt" little did I know it would be much, much worse.
Every one arrived and got ready and the lesson was underway in a Very, very serious and scary way.
We started off with a Irimi tenkan move done in a Yoshinkan way with a nice Kiai and chop at the end to which no one could do as it was a "Beginners class" but never the less the Yosinkan guy did belittle all our techniques and efforts in one fall swoop!
None of us really cared and carried on having fun and trying with all our hearts to get the deadly Yoshinkan move out.
We then did an Ikyo move that still no one except the Yoshinkan guy could do perfectly, fun times as he came over and showed us where we where going wrong, slamming us into the mat with all his might and hurting us to the core, showing us a new dimension in PAIN!
Finishing off with some koyoho breath power with either pinkies out or "opening a book".

A very painful lesson in differences in Yoshinkan and traditional Aikido, also in attitude towards beginners and teaching styles.

But remember the yoshinkan is "Street Aikido" and for "The streets"...
