Pushing up off the mat
Sweat dripping off my chin and nose
Hair plastered to my skull
Swearing silently to myself: Get up! Get up!
The temperature must be
In the lower 90's, at least
The humidity, just god-awful
Air-conditioning, a lovely myth
I heard about in some far off good-land
My gi and hakama
No longer separate
But a part of my sweat-soaked body
Nage waiting patiently
Not in any hurry, himself
Breathe, breathe, my mantra Shit, quit talking and just get up!
Movement can give the illusion of progress
So, at least, let me feed that illusion
And, just move!
