Good class worked with M first, then with Anna Orias, and finally with Noel. M ended up working for a long time with someone who's training style is diametrically opposed to her learning style, and got VERY frustrated. I need to make sure that I somehow can moderate this as a good sempie.
Sensei came over to Noel and I and demonstrated hoy Myrote Kokyu Ho is supposed to be done on the Ukes side. It was great! He also showed us how you could be locked out of a technique by someone, by grabbing them, but not really connecting. He spoke to us about how we had created a training partner in the dojo by reinforcing this unwittingly. Once he explained how the technique is supposed to function and how the game worked, when others were putting us in their game we grasped what we were doing with the person in question and I at least how I have fed this in the past..
Noel and I then worked on being the best uke we could for the technique! The trick is to make sure that you are grabbing the Nage in a way that would prevent them from both striking you in the nose, or kicking you in the nether regions. This energy that you have to use to prevent either of those actions by Nage is the energy that makes the technique really effective, and a lot more fun to do. If you don't have this energy you have to use the ukes arm as a lever, and trap it between your wrist, and their ribcage so that you can take their center. This takes a lot more skill, and as sensei pointed out, most of us would just pop them in the nose instead, it takes less energy, and would get a good effect.
Once we were "correctly" being a good uke for each other it was awesome. With a slight movemet I sent Noel zinging accorss the mat!!! (Wow his ukemi is great!) Zooom! He did the same to me. It was impossible to resist or shut the Nage down if you were really giving a realistic and truthfull attack.
This also took all of my worries off of my test for a while. I was thinking about how cool this new uke business for Myrote dori was! (Hey wait that IS on my test!)
