how many people practice aikido?

Does anyone have any idea how many practitioners of aikido there are in the US? in the world? just curious. If you want to provide a link to a website that has that info to save time, please do so. thanks. KM

This number is way too hard to compile. Even if you were to collectively gather information from every Aikido Dojo that was listed in the yellow pages, you would still have those that taught in their garage, to family only, or to friends they come across.

You also have those of us that have trained in Aikido, but train in other arts now........

The number it too hard to attain. I am sure there are those out there that can try to estimate, but the number is going to be way off.

Best Aikido 2: The master course states that it is estimated that the world aikido population is approaching 1.5 million.I'd be willing to bet it's more than that, because Aikikai usually doesn't recognize "other" Aikidos. It would be interesting to learn how they came up with their "estimate", because they don't elaborate in B.A.2.
