It is with great sadness and sorrow that we must inform about the passing of our president, teacher and very good friend Leif Lynggaard Nielsen. Leif Lynggaard Nielsen died early the morning of Oct 20th. after years of fight against cancer decease.

Leif was one of the pioneers in Danish Aikido. After having practised Aikido in Yokohama, and later in Hombu Dojo in Tokyo, he returned to Copenhagen and founded the Bosatsu dojo in the mid 70’ies. It was from Bosatsu he started his work for Aikido in Denmark, first with the establishment of Danish Aikikai and now latest with the foundation of Danish Aikido Federation. Leif was also the Chief Instructor of Itosukai Karate in Denmark, and due to his effort Bosatsu now has status as head dojo for Itosukai Karate in Europe. Leif was one the highest ranking personalities in the budo world in Denmark holding a 6. dan in both Karate and Aikido and he will be missed a lot, not only by the hundreds of his direct students in Denmark, but also by that huge number of budo people all over the world who have known Leif for a longer or shorter period. Leif was highly respected and liked by everyone, not only for his high technical skills but also for his warm and kind personality.

Our thoughts and deepest sympathy goes to Leifs family. Honoured be the memory of Leif Lynggaard Nielsen.
