Announcing The 2nd Annual NY Aikido Center Fall Seminar Featuring Haruo Matsuoka Sensei, 5th Dan - Saturday December 10th, 2005.
After the great success of last year's inaugural, but private event we have decided this year to host a public seminar open to the greater Tri-State Aikido community. We hope that those of you who have been waiting for this rarest of opportunities - training with Matsuoka Sensei outside of Southern California - will join us for this much-anticipated event.
Haruo Matsuoka Sensei (http://www.nyaikidocenter.com/Hmatsuoka1.htm) shot to the forefront of the Aikido consciousness in 1988 with his breathtaking ukemi skills (http://www.stevenseagal.com/aikidoVideoOne.html) demonstrated on the big screen in the opening scene of the Steven Seagal movie, "Above the Law". Unknown by name at that time he has since become a much sought after Aikido teacher (http://www.aikiweb.com/forums/showpost.php?p=106867&postcount=13), renown for his truly unique training approach and dynamic techniques, both of which were displayed at Aikido Journal's three Aiki-Expos (http://www.aikidojournal.com/expo/?instructor=18), and on his own Ikazuchi Dojo (http://www.ikazuchi.com) DVD series which chronicle his daily training and teaching methods in his actual dojo class setting.
His gentle demeanor and humble attitude are known to be in stark contrast to the powerful and effective techniques garnered as the former Chief Instructor of Steven Seagal Sensei's Aikido Tenshin Dojo. With Seiseki Abe Shihan, a very close disciple of Aikido's founder, Morihei Ueshiba, O-Sensei as his current mentor, Matsuoka Sensei naturally blends kokyu (the subtle but powerful force at the center of Aikido) with his broad technical foundation which has added yet another layer to his Aikido teaching method.
When: This will be a one day training event that will take place on Saturday December 10th, 2005.
Where: Location & Venue to be announced.
Cost: Training fee is $70.00 - prepaid by 12/01/05 (no registrations at the door) or $100.00 - prepaid by 12/01/05 (includes high quality, commemorative sweatshirt)

Thank you again to those who have registered since our last update message. I just returned from seeing Matsuoka Sensei in Iowa (at the Seiseki Abe Sensei semnar). We discussed some possible content for the December 10th seminar. We discussed some people's expressed interest in the following areas
Kokyu - generating power without movement - or what Matsuoka Sensei refers to as "Whole Body Movement)
The Tai-sabaki/Te-sabaki/Ashi-sabaki of Matsuoka Sensei's dynamic randori
Bokken - suburi/kumitachi
Matsuoka Sensei is very open to presenting his current ideas as well as expanding on older, more technique-based methodologies. I am interested in getting some feedback from those who have either registered or are thinking of regestering. I look forward to your comments.

Hi Shaun,
Sounds like it'll be an interesting seminar. I had a great time going to all of Matsuoka sensei's classes at the Aiki Expo earlier this year. I hope the seminar goes well.

In my opinion, Matsuoka Sensei is right on the verge of a major break through which will propel him up to the highest levels of the art. He is already awesome but is clearly enegaged in a process which is changing everything about how he sees what he does. it is VERY exciting. He is an incredible teacher and I fully intend to get more exposure to this man. Unfortunately, that very weekend I am in DC attending Saotome Sensei's instructor's seminar and I haven't mastered being in two places at once or I would be there. You guys should have a great time... bet your heads will be spinning by the end of the weekend!
