Shoshin Aikido Dojo, Orlando Fl is saddened to announce that Mike Dougher Sensei died thursday night from a massive heart attack moments after class. He had given a wonderful demonstration of Aikido, calmly, smoothly, and softly; he was approaching a wonderful level and it could be seen by all.
Mike was 46 years old and is survived by his wife Shayla and three daughters. All of you who had the opportunity to train with him over the years will miss him, I am sure. He was a master potter and the founder of our pottery studio here at Shoshin Dojo. I could talk about him for hours, he was a true Aikidoka and a fine teacher. We all grieve for his loss.
It might be time for all of us to get some medical education so we can see warning signs for something like this. I don't know if it could have been prevented, but if a bit of education could prevent another death, it surely would be worth it. Mike will be cremated and his ashes given to sea he loved so well. A part will be fired into a ceramic bell which will sing his memory forever.
