Hi!
I recently started doing Shinkendo and we're using waxwood bokkens for practice.
Unfortunately, my dojo is fresh out and it might take quite a while to restock.
Does anyone know where one can order these bokkens?
Thanks a lot
Stefan

Hello Stefan,
The best place to get a good waxwood bokuto is from Obata Soke himself. Go to the shinkendo.com discussion forum and ask how to order one directly from Honbu.
You can also check Cold Steel knives for an alternative, they offer white waxwood staffs of various lengths. But I can't vouch for the quality of these staffs.
Good luck with you Shinkendo training!
(PS: Do you also study Aiki-Buken at your dojo?)

Hi Brian!
Many thanks for your quick reply and help.
My sensei told me there are a lot of other types of martial arts involved in Shinkendo, among them a form of Aikido. On the website this form is indeed listed as Aiki-Buken though I have not done Aikido before and am not too familiar with the different styles.
Again, thanks a lot for the help
Best regards from Munich

Hello Stefan,
You're welcome! It's always a pleasure to help a fellow ISF/AB member!
To get a better idea of Obata Kaiso's style of aikido, ask him to demonstrate 'Yonkajo' on you next time he's visiting there! ;) ...*LOL*...It will quickly become VERY clear!
Best wishes with your Shinkendo training!
Many thanks for your quick reply and help.

Hello Stefan,
I guess I should have asked you to check with your instructor prior to contacting honbu. Following the chain-of-command is the safest way to get information! I forget that sometimes because I'm the top link of the chain at my dojo, and going to honbu for info is the standard way for me to get it.
Sorry for steering you in the wrong direction!
Best of luck with your training!

The waxwood staff they sell at coldsteel.com is very good. One of the students in the Omaha Shinkendo Club has one. You only need to cut it to the right length.
