I am an Australian teaching English here in Japan and have just finished reading (well 4 weeks ago) an interesting book called "Angry white pajama's". It was suggested by a person I met when staying in a youth hostel. It was an interesting read about an Englishman that takes a year long intensive course with the Yoshinkan dojo in Tokyo. I really enjoyed it. Anyway, I am now interested in learning about Aikido more an would like to start some classes. I did the dojo search and found some classes in Kusukabe but its a little far from me. I live in Minami-Urawa in Saitama. So I was wondering if any of the Japanese / foreigners in Japan, know of any closer clubs to me. I would like to try the Yoshinkan style as I noticed from their website they have a dojo in Brisbane where I come from. So would be ideal for when I return to Australia. Ideally I would like to train a couple of times a week. As in Brisbane I was doing Taekwondo and I know you have to train at least 2 times a week to start getting anywhere.
Any help would be appreciated. :)

Welcome to Aikiweb.
For info on Yoshinkan dojos, you could try email@example.com or Michael Steumpel (sp?) who posts here might be able to tell you directly.
As for Brisbane Yoshinkan, Mori Sensei (6th dan) was an uchi deshi under Shioda Sensei at the honbu for about 10 years (he got a very brief mention in Angry White Pyjamas) and runs a full-time dojo in West End.

Welcome to Aiki-web :)
Minami-Urawa is probably less than 45 minutes from the Yoshinkan Hombu dojo in Higashi-Nakano (Higashi-Nakano Station on Chuo Line/Oedo Line or Ochiai Station on the Tozai Line). This is the dojo where the Aikido part of AWP took place. They have daily classes
My own dojo (RYA) is about the same distance in train time. It's in Roppongi (Oedo Line/Hibiya Line). We have classes on Tues/Thurs morning and Saturday early evening. Our website is at http://www.roppongi-yoshinkan.com
Please let me know if you have any questions. You are welcome to come take a look.
And as an AWP reference...the RYA dojo is run by Roland Thompson..aka "The Terminator" and myself (aka..."Stumpy")

Thanks for your response. I really wanted something closer to my house. But I think I should be able to travel for 40mins a couple of times a week. I'll probably go to the Hombu dojo.
