I have just been skiing for the first time ever. It was in the france alpes. I seemed to pick it up very quickly. The moment I put the skis on i had the balace needed to ski.
Does anyone think that Aikido could help with Skiing, or even Skiing help with Aikido. Also is it true that professional skiers take up Aikido to help them Ski.

I started aikido after skiing for many years and found that my skiing has improved ever since--plus "falling" (which still happens) is more fun!

I am a keen skier. After I took up aikido I tried to apply a Zen/martial approach to my skiing - make every turn a perfect turn. Improved my skiing but took the fun out of things immensely. However I did pick up the concept of circular turns with the new carving skiis much more easily. I think the new skiis are great and lead to a much more aiki skiing style (ie less hard work)

Back when I was young I cleaned toilets for a season in Aspen. There was a regular "aikido for skiing" seminar. I don't know who took it or whether it was beneficial (smacked a bit of profiteering to me). Ironically there was no actual aikido available.
