Antonino Certa Shihan (5th dan) from Milan, Italy, will teach an introductory seminar in Daito-ryu aikijujutsu.
DATES: 19th March 2005: 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.
20th March 2005: 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
VENUE: Sugden Sports Centre,
114 Grosvenor Street
The course will focus on techniques from the hiden mokuroku scroll of Daito-ryu as well as sword training.
Daito-ryu is one the few genuine classical jujutsu systems being taught outside of Japan. It was passed down in secret by the Takeda family until it finally became more open in the 20th century. It is most famous for being the style which Takeda Sokaku taught to aikido Founder Ueshiba Morihei.
Antonino Certa is one of the only westerners to have studied directly under Takeda Sokaku's son and successor, Tokimune. Prior to studying Daito-ryu, he was a 4th dan in aikido (Aikikai). He is now a shihan of the Nihon Daito-ryu Aikibudo Daitokai Association.
This seminar is a wonderful opportunity for Aikidoka to explore one of the roots of the Founder's art.
