Hi this is for you medical folks out there.

I have a student in his early 50s that found out he has heterozygous Factor V Leiden, and is now on Coumadin.

Have any of you had student who have had this genetic anomaly? What did they have to do to continue training?

Do you know anyone who was on Coumadin and continued training? What precautions did they take? How did it affect their training?

Thanks in Advance.

Coumadin is an anticoagulant that WILL interfere with the body's ability to stop bleeding, both internally (bruising as well as from organs) and externally (cuts, mucous membranes). How much it interferes is dose-related and folks generally have labs checked/dosages adjusted to stay within a range the doctor wants.
If I were either the student or the student's instructor, I'd want a written ok from a doctor who understands the nature of aikido training.
