Osu!!

This is a great site and glad I found it. I'm actually still new in aikido and a lot more for me to learn. I've been training yoshinkan aikido for about 2 years. This is a good place for me to gain or exchange knowledge in aikido.

Hi Raymond,

Are you training in KL with Ramlan or Sonny? If you train Yoshinkan, you really should go to Seremban and train with Master Thamby Rajah, the man who introduced both Aikido and Judo to Malaysia, and the Aikido was Yoshinkan!!! One of his students - the Late Master Edwin Stratton (who I was lucky enough to train under) - was the first to bring Yoshinkan to the UK!!!

I have been over to Malaysia twice and hope to be there next year, family permitting. Master Thamby is wonderful and the feeling training with him is so energising!!! Have fun and remember how lucky you are to have those teachers around you. Also, look out for Sensei Joe Thambu!!! An excellent Aikidoka and teacher, and a must to train under. He changed my Aikido!!!!

All the best.

OSU!

Hey Boon i thought you are training in a different dojo now?

Tan, that was MAA Aikido's 10 anniversary. Not Aikido in Malaysia's 10th. I think thats a little bit older if Sensei Thamby has anything to say about it.

True! The Shudokan dojo was established in 1952. First teaching Juijitsu, and then in 1955 Thamby Sensei became the first Judo black belt in Malaysia after returning from Japan, and then in 1959 Thamby Sensei gained his black belt in Yoshinkan Aikido on another trip to Japan, the first Malaysia Aikido Black Belt, introducing Aikido to Malaysia.

I had 3 weeks in Malaysia in July 2001 with Master Thamby and Joe Sensei, and then I was in Seremban for Master Thamby's 50 years in Budo celebrations in October 2003.

I hope to be there next year in September with Kenshinkai, who I train under now (IYAF). Hopefully I will get to meet you, Ray.

Boon,

I met Francis Klien in 2001 when I was first out there. He had just opened his new dojo and did not even have tatami on the floor yet. If you were there you may remember Ramlan coming in with a group of English guys?

Hi Wilson,

I joined their rank in 2003, so I certainly did not meet you. I may have met you in Port Dickson during the Sensei Thambhy 50th Budo Celebration. Are you the one in "Angry White Pyjamas?" -- pun intended. :D

Hi Boon,

Yes, I was in PD on Thamby Sensei's 50th anniversary. I was there with my wife, Ania (Polish girl), who was brown belt at the time. I got her to black belt a year later.

No, I am not the guy from Angry White Pyjamas, that is Danny from Joe Sensei's dojo in Australia. He is a nice guy. I hope you got to meet him.

I was in the "50 Years Of Excellence In Budo" demonstration in the Seremban Hilton too. I did Yokomen Uchi Jiyu Waza, throwing the wife around if you have the DVD or VCD.

Anyway, I hope to be in Malaysia in September next year, with time spent between KL and Penang, so I will visit Master Thamby, and I will be seeing Francis Ramasamy Sensei too (Penang). Maybe I will get to see you guys then. Hope so.

Osu!

Joe Sensei is great. I learned one of my favourite techniques from him. It's a drop down into seiza from any front attack holding the head and have uke fly over you kokyu nage. Lots of fun :)

I haven't seen him for a couple of years, but I hope I get a chance next time he comes to Japan.

I had to jump in this conversation since I have also trained in Malaysia. I went there with Inoue Sensei 6 years ago on a trip sponsored by Sonny Loke Sensei. Had a blast with everyone I met :)

Raymond...welcome to Aikiweb!!!!

Hi Guys

The plan for next year is 6 days in KL and 12 in Penang, so a couple of trips to Master Thamby in Seremban will be in my plan, plus training at Ramlan's dojo as well as Sonny's.

Hope I get to meet you.

Hey Abas!

How have you been lately? How about Sensei, Miles, Riz and peoples else of Bangsar Dojo? Although i have no longer to keiko in Bangsar Dojo, my mind still remains to there.

See you!
