I'm 61 years old and I'm getting over a broken leg from skydiving...going to try something else. I wonder if at this age I can do aikido? I'm in fair condition..sore in the mornings.

Welcome to AikiWeb! I think it's great that you're so active at 61. I'm 42 and after 11 years of aikido, I'm sore in the mornings too.
I think some aikido dojo would suit you while others would not. Go visit several that are a reasonable commute. Talk to the instructors and check out their attitude.
Also, I would talk to a doctor and get them to clear you before starting. You don't want to reinjure your leg or tear something by starting vigorous exercise after forced inactivity.

Yes aikido is suitable, I train often with one man who is in his 70's
He does not high fall much anymore, but it has always been a pleasure training with him.
Also I am going to visit a former student soon who trained with me and was in his 60s while training.
When Osensei (The founder of Aikido) trained in his later years he needed to be carried up and down the stairs by his students, however he was able to throw around the young whipper snappers in his dojo. :-P Hope that helps.. Cheerio.
PS I also do agree with looking at the dojo choices, from my experience there are some schools that seem to think you need to power through moves in the art of peace.

Arthur, one of my students started at our dojo when he was 76!!! Still going at 79!!!! It depends on your frame of mind. If you can skydive, I'm sure you can do some aikido.
