In 1999 the Rising Star Aikido instructors, Mike and Wally Taylor, organized and presented the first Fellowship Seminar. The goal of that seminar was to unite people in Nebraska with similar interests to train in a friendly atmosphere free of prejudice due to rank, affiliation, style or experience. At this time, it was planned to be a one time event. Due to increased interest and a dedication to further the spread of Aikido, the event was brought back in 2003 to celebrate the grand opening of Rising Star Aikido’s new home dojo. The success of that event prompted the organizers to make it an annual event. This year’s seminar features six instructors from five schools in the eastern Nebraska area. The event and following picnic dinner are to promote an area of Aikido that the instructors of Rising Star Aikido feel is one of the most important, fellowship. Please join us in this celebration of Aikido and friendship.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS:

LYLE LAIZURE: FOUNDER OF HINODE AIKIDO IN OMAHA, NEBRASKA. LYLE HOLDS A SANDAN IN AIKIDO, ALSO TRAINS, AND TEACHES SHINKENDO, WHICH IS A STYLE OF JAPANESE SWORDSMANSHIP.

WALLY TAYLOR AND MIKE TAYLOR: THIS FATHER AND SON TEAM ARE CO-FOUNDERS OF RISING STAR AIKIDO IN SOUTH BEND, NEBRASKA. BOTH HAVE STUDIED UNDER CHRISTENHAM SENSEI AND ARE AMONG THE LAST OF HIS ORIGINAL STUDENTS. BOTH OF THE TAYLORS HOLD SANDAN RANKING IN AIKIDO.

WES SHOCKLEY: FOUNDER OF RISING SPIRIT DOJO IN PAPILLION, NEBRASKA. WES HOLDS A SHODAN IN THE VIETNAMESE ART OF CUONG NHU. THE BLOCKS AND STRIKING THAT ARE INVOLVED IN CUONG NHU COMPLIMENT AIKIDO TRAINING AND THE TWO ARTS GO HAND IN HAND. IT IS THIS FACT, ALONG WITH A GOOD FRIENDSHIP, THAT BRINGS SHOCKLEY SENSEI TO HIS SECOND FELLOWSHIP SEMINAR.

JOHN ROSEBERRY: FOUNDER OF SHO REI SHOBU KAN IN LINCOLN NEBRASKA. ROSEBERRY SENSEI HOLDS A SANDAN IN AIKIDO. HIS UNIQUE STYLE OF TEACHING AND PLEASANT PERSONALITY IS ALWAYS A CROWD PLEASER. ROSEBERRY SENSEI ALSO HOLDS A 9TH DAN IN GOJU RYU KARATE AND A 7th DAN IN JUDO.

RON CHRISTENHAM: CHRISTENHAM SENSEI IS THE FOUNDER OF SARPY AIKIDO CLUB IN LAVISTA, NEBRASKA AND THE DOJO CHO FOR AHI (AIKIDO OF HAWAII INTERNATIONAL) IN THE MIDWEST AREA. HE HOLDS A GODAN IN AIKIDO. WITHOUT CHRISTENHAM SENSEI, THIS SEMINAR WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE. IT WOULD BE UNTHINKABLE TO HOLD THIS EVENT WITHOUT HIS BLESSING AND PARTICIPATION.

ABOUT CUONG NHU
Cuong Nhu was founded in 1965 by Grandmaster Ngo Dong. Cuong Nhu is a martial art that blends the basic elements of a number of different styles. Cuong Nhu has its roots in Shotokan Karate and combines aspects of Aikido, Judo, Wing Chun, Vovinam(Vietnamese martial arts), Tai Chi Chuan, and Boxing. It is this blending of hard and soft styles from which Cuong Nhu (pronounced Kung New) derives its name, which is Vietnamese for Hard (Cuong) - Soft (Nhu).

RISING STAR AIKIDO IS A MEMBER OF AIKIDO of HAWAII INTERNATIONAL
