How are you all doing? I've been reading some of the posts, but unfortunately, couldn't respond or ask questions until now. I've learned a bunch of new concepts and points of view. I look forward to hearing from and learning from such a broad experience base!
Cheers!
Hi Mike,
Welcome, and thank you for you rintroduction!

I am new to aikido (green belt), studied when I was in Saudi Arabia. When I came back here in the Philippines I was invited to watch URC it's the same as UFC in the states. I was very eager how Aikido could be graded in actual fights. Then I watched one of the best students in Aikido fought, He has a black belt and His opponent is of Juijitsu discipline.
Gosh it was just a minute fight, he was clinched, wrestled down and choked and finally submit. All in all he lost without giving a good fight.
I don't know is that how Aikido fought with Juijitsu, looks very unprepared and shocked.
I am still thinking whether to continue with Aikido or jump to Jui JitSu, please defend ...

Hello Mike, as you can see this website is full of folk with loads of experience and good advice. There's usually many responses to questions, and unlike a lot of sites, people here don't seem to trash each other very often when they don't agree, which is pretty rare on the internet, and a credit to Jun.
Noel, I don't think this is the right section for your question, unless your 'introduction' cuts straight to the old 'is aikido effective?' question that has appeared just one or two times before... try doing a search, and you'll have enough to read for quite some time and hopefully come to some conclusion of your own.
BTW, I don't think many people will feel the need to rush to the defence of aikido on the result of a UFC style fight, which as you may come to realise, aikido isn't really about, or in my opinion, very suitable for.
Best regards, Ian

You are exactly right, I still love Aikido and will continue practicing it, with some added mix of grappling from my friend. I just don't wanna get caught with my pants down (self defence off course).
Regards to all.

well, I've had experience in high school wrestling, aikido, & some ju jitsu style grappling. I believe that the more well rounded you are as a martial artist the more options you'll have. Not to mention that, the styles will lend themselves to eachother. so yeah if you have the time go for it, practice as many as possible.
