Yellow Belt Techiques

Although this site provides some good animated pictures for some techniques, could someone tell me the basics required for a yellow belt? And whether there's anywhere else that I can find some videos or illustrations online to learn and practise? Thanks :)

Yellow belt is going to mean different things to different people. Most organizations do not use colored belts but go from white to black. The levels are kyu levels and the requirements are going to vary based on the organization and affiliation.

By yellow belt, I'm assuming you mean the first belt or 6th kyu in many Aikido schools. The techniques required for 6th kyu will vary depending on what style you practice, and if there are organization requirements.

My school (Aikido Mt. Airy, http://www.aikido-mtairy.com/) is unaffiliated with any of the main Aikido organizations. Just for an example of what some schools may require, a link to our test requirements is:

I did five throws for my first test (fifth kyu for us; we don't use colored belts), plus kokyu dosa and some one-person exercises. When I trained briefly at another dojo, their fifth kyus asked me about testing and then had the pleasure of explaining to me that *they* did thirty different throws for fifth. (It was true, too. Training there, I constantly felt as though my head was going to explode from information overload.)

So the answer to your question is "It really, really depends on the dojo." Best idea is to ask your fellow students or teachers--either they'll show you or they'll have something to recommend. A lot of my classmates use Kashiwaya sensei's video tapes to study the testing criteria, though I haven't seen them yet as I don't have a VCR.

Hi Amy,

The best way is to ask your fellow student or the higher student who did the test in yellow belt. dont rely to movie clips or whatsover it could possibly comfused to your organization pattern in doing the yellow belt test. But, its okey to see those clips to enchance your ability and athusiasm to our Arts.
And best of all, Relax and do the best :)

These are the techniques we have to know to pass 5th kyu. I am not sure but hey may be the same for you...
