Just registered for a Aikido and Zen Intensive on July 27-Aug 1. Pretty excited because I get to kill two birds with one stone.(non-violently of course)

Has anyone ever done this ? Or is anyone going from this site ? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

I should add that it is being taught by Sensei William Gleason.

Very exciting! I am jealous...
I have talked with Gleason Sensei about this training. He has a long standing relationship with the folks at this monastery since that is where his own Zen teacher is. From what he has told me in the past it sounds like a great training. Be sure to let us know how it hoes.

Do you have any details about what it's like ?

Thanks,

Greetings,
I too am a new Aikidoka, and this is my first reply on Aiki-web. Also, i happen to be infatuated with the great Zen and Taoist Masters such as Takuan Soho, Hakuin, Lao Tzu, Chuang Tzu, etc (not to mention lord Buddha). They are all great teachers worth the research and study of their lives and thought. I consider O Sensei to be right up there with all great Masters and Boddhisatva (here to guide us on the Way).
Imagine how happy i am to discover that Zen and Aikido training can be found in one place! Where is this dojo/monestary? I live in Portland Oregon.

arigato gozai mas ta!

That looks Wonderful! I'm planning to attend something similar in August with Wendy Palmer Sensei, Meditation and Concious Embodiment, which is kinda like aikido without attacks or throws. This particular retreat is only privately offered to current students but i sure hope that more of these kind of cross-over retreats become available!

I met Sensei Gleason at the ZMM 14 years ago. It was the first retreat he taught their and my first experience with Aikido. That seminar was a profound and life changing experience for me. I am proud to call Sensei Gleason my teacher. He is an excellent aikido teacher. He has trained with the foremost Aikido masters. He is also plays shakuhachi. I could think of no better place to practice aikido or zen than the ZMM. I wish you the best with the seminar.

Thanks Paul,

I am really encouraged and excited. ZMM has always been a goal for me, and for me to get back into a traditonal ma(Aikido) and also get to experience this at ZMM...all I can say is I'm counting the days.

I hope to keep the fire burning strong.

How interesting. This is about 5 minutes up the road from me.
I didn't even know they were holding this.

I have to visit the MRO website more often!

I'll do something similar 9-10-11 July: 3 days of aikido, KSR, and ZaZen meditation... all in a small Zen monastery on the hills of central Italy; AFAIK, we will live with/like the monks while not training, eating with them and like them, going to sleep and awaking with them, meditating with them.

Even if I'm only a beginner in both arts, personally I think it will be a very cool experience... I'll let you know :)

Bye!
