Hi!
I was just thinking about something the other day. Many people doing aikido and/or other martial arts tend to be quite negative about the use of books and especially video-tapes. But why should tapes be so inferior to regular training. I mean if you where to assemble pins one through five (ikkyo-gokkyo)for instance and did some really detailed filming of the techniques, and included lots of advise concerning the common mistakes that most people make anyways i firmly belive that they could be a good aid at least. Of course i have never personally studied martial arts over the vcr but why condemn it all together?
And don't get me wrong i have full respect for people who don't want to use these means since it might shallow out their perticular art but couldn't it work as a complement?

As a complement, yes. As a replacement for real, on-the-mat training, no.
