About a week ago I stumbled on a write up(interview) regarding Sensei Koichi Tohei and the awarding 10th Dan and the controversy surrounding it(:dates etc.). Can anyone help me refind it. Also does the name Robert Nadeau seem familar to anyone. I believe he wasin the San Jose or Fremont area in California in the late 60's. Does anyone out there know the name of the Sensei who taught at the Monterey Aikikai in the late 60"s. He was Vietnamese.

Robert Nadeau certainly is not hiding--just pick your search engine. He has been the chief instructor at City Aikido in San Francisco for decades as well as Aikido of Mountain View.

Not positive but I think this might have been Tri Thong Dang sensei. My sensei studied with Tri sensei in the early 70's and I asked him if there was a dojo in Monterey and he thought there was. Lynn, you know any more about this?

For the interview try these locations:
Pt.1 (http://www.aikidojournal.com/article.php?articleID=93)
Pt. 2 (http://www.aikidojournal.com/article.php?articleID=127)
Pt. 3 (http://www.aikidojournal.com/article.php?articleID=269)

The Vietnamese instructor could be Sensei Dang Thong Tri (http://www.balona.com/tri.html). He taught at the Budo Education Center in Sacramento in the early 1970's. He might be the elder brother of Sensei Dang Thong Phong (http://www.tenshinkai.com/history.asp). I can't say if this is the same individual. However a web site said:
Master Tri also studied under the founder of aikido, O-Sensei Morihei Ueshiba. O-Sensei was so impressed with Master Tri's remarkable personal qualities that he bestowed upon Master Tri the honorary name “Ten Shin” --pure spirit. Sensei Dang Thong Phong's association is called Tenshinkai Aikido.

Is this coincidence?

In the case where Sensei Dang Thong Tri is the person you'd like to find more about, you can try to contact Lynn Seiser (http://hometown.aol.com/AikiSolutions/AikiSolutions.html) a member of this forum and Tenshinkai.

Many thanks tobronson,Janet and ted for your info it's getting me closer. However am still looking for the article(s) about the controversy about the dates concerning the tenth dan bestowed to Sensei Tohei by OSensei .The article had a lot of info concerning the confusion of the dates...You people are amazing and very kind to an old man whose memory is very faulty. Very glad to find Bob Nadeau again...remember a paper on onion skin with a refernce to a recent return from a trip to Hombu Dojo. Many, many thanks. Arch
