Hi,
I'm going to be moving to the Joplin, Missouri area and I'm looking for a dojo in the area (close enough to attend).
Y'know any?
Thanks,
-D.

Looks like you have about an hour's drive regardless. Still... could be worse.
I've heard of Jason Moreland, but not enough to comment. Anyone know these instructors?
Good luck, Darren! Have fun! :D

Thanks! I'm not sure that any of those are close enough - with my 12-hour workdays. But thanks for going to the trouble to make the list. I wonder why nobody's teaching in Joplin?

After some looking around on Google, I've found a few 10th dan "Soke" types specifically in Joplin.
You might check out E-budo in your search for an instructor. Personal opinion: if they say they are "soke" or "grandmaster", don't believe it until you can varify it with a legitimate international organization OR if they are affilitated with a legitimate international organization.
Hombu keeps records on all black belts issued by them.
Keep lookin... there's people out there!
Best of luck,
John

Thanks! I'll check them out. I also admit to a degree of skepticism at the word "Soke," but I have to admit that it's possible.
Thanks again!

Check the current issue of Black Belt Magazine for George Dillman's comment on the 10th degree Sokes.

I don't know if you are in Joplin yet, but John Karriman sensei runs Butokuden West Aikikai in Joplin, MO. I believe the number is 417.623.2836(BUDO).

No aikikai in Joplin that I know of, but I will second Rob's suggestion to look up John Karriman. John teaches in the Kokoro Ryu system of jujutsu, but with a strong influence from the aiki side of the house. He spent some years training with Saotome, among others.
Good folks. If you go see 'em, tell 'em howdy from their long lost cousin in Bavaria.
Chuck
