Being new to Aikido, I never had a chance to attend a seminar to meet Kanai Sensei, but was looking forward to it one day.

Truly very sad. I greatly enjoyed meeting and training with Kanai Sensei during the Aikikai Tanshinjuku seminar. He will certainly be missed.

I just saw Kanai Shihan at the Spring Camp in New England. A friend and I were saying how important it was to see Teachers such as Kanai Shihan and learn all that we can, because several other Shihan had passed away recently. I remember thinking that Kanai Shihan really looked great and in good health and that he would be around for a long time. This is a sad day in the world of Aikido and a great loss. My condolences to his family, students, and friends.

I had the very unique opportunity to train in his classes when I went to summercamp. I am gonna go studying this year, so I will be missing the 40th anniversary. I wanted to go, see and train under great teachers like Kanai Sensei. His aikido was so strong and he was so nice to everybody even if he didn't know you at all! I wish I had the chance to study aikido under his guidance for a prolonged time, who could have guessed that he would leave us so soon!! We should be truly grateful we can still learn from his colleagues, such as Yamada Sensei and Chiba Sensei. He will be definitely missed as a great aikidoka and person. What a sad loss!

My condolences to all of his family & students.

I was priveleged to spend some time at his dojo in the 1970's and will remeber him not only for his powerful technique but also his welcome to me as well as his knidness during my brief stay.

He will be missed.

The last time I trained in one of Kanai Sensei's classes was at the East Coast Winter camp last year in Florida. I was training in a line with a young aikidoka, maybe 12 or 13 years old. Kanai Sensei must have known this youngster as he came over to our line and asked him how his practice was coming and if he was also still studying sword work. Kanai Sensei was smiling the whole time and very friendly with this young man. I think that's memory I'll take, his concern for this young man's progress.
